Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is a 1997 action RPG that redefined the Castlevania series. Players control Alucard, Dracula's son, exploring a massive, nonlinear castle filled with RPG elements, platforming challenges, and iconic gothic horror enemies.

The game pioneered the 'Metroidvania' genre with its sprawling castle map requiring acquired abilities to progress. Notable for its stunning 2D sprite work, orchestral soundtrack by Michiru Yamane, and voice acting that became legendary ("What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets!"). The game initially underperformed commercially but later became one of the most critically acclaimed PlayStation titles.
