Sega CD Games Collection
The Sega CD (known as Mega-CD outside North America), released in 1991, was a groundbreaking CD-ROM add-on for the Sega Genesis that dramatically expanded the console's capabilities. It featured a double-speed CD-ROM drive, enhanced audio with a dedicated sound chip, and the ability to deliver full-motion video games. While criticized for its high price ($299 at launch) and some poorly executed FMV games, the Sega CD introduced several technical innovations including redbook audio support, larger storage capacity (up to 320MB vs cartridges' few MB), and some of the earliest console RPGs with voice acting like Lunar: The Silver Star. Notable titles included Sonic CD (with its time travel mechanics), the horror game Night Trap (which sparked controversy), and the impressive racing game Road Avenger. Though it sold approximately 2.24 million units, the Sega CD ultimately proved too expensive to develop for and was overshadowed by next-generation consoles.
