NeoGeo Pocket Games Collection

The Neo Geo Pocket (NGP), released in 1998, and its color successor the Neo Geo Pocket Color (1999) were SNK's handheld gaming systems. These monochrome and color handhelds were known for their high-quality build, excellent clicky microswitched joystick, and focus on fighting games and arcade-style titles. The NGPC had a modest library of about 80 games, but featured excellent ports of SNK's Neo Geo arcade fighters like The King of Fighters and Samurai Shodown. The system competed directly with Nintendo's Game Boy Color but offered superior hardware specifications including a 16-bit CPU and vibrant color display. Despite critical acclaim for its hardware quality and niche game library, the NGPC was discontinued in 2001 after selling approximately 2 million units, unable to compete with Nintendo's market dominance. The system developed a cult following for its unique game selection and remains prized by collectors today. SNK's recent Neo Geo Mini suggests continued interest in their classic gaming legacy, though no true successor to the NGPC line has emerged.
